Act 3: Story The snowfall continues to get worse and worse, and even the combined efforts of Mr. Plow, The Plow King, and an annoyed Ned Flanders with a "modified" plow can't keep up. But they did manage to clear the streets leading to Moe's Tavern before they ran out of steam, so Homer and Barney venture out for a consolation drink to help bring up their spirits. When they arrive, they discover that Duffman has come to the bar with the newest seasonal flavor, Peppermint Duff, courtesy of the plant's new owner. Unfortunately, while the holiday cheer level of the new drink is high, the flavor is awful, and even Barney is considering spending Christmas sober if this is all there is to drink. Lisa braces herself and confronts her family, urging them to help her fix what Mr. McGrew is doing, and is immediately confused when everyone, even Bart, agrees to help her without any extra prodding. They decide that the best way to fix the mess is to remind Mr. McGrew about the holiday season by having the three ghosts from "A Christmas Carol" revisit him, and it just so happens that The Ghost of Christmas Past is already in Springfield and volunteering at the Springfield Men's Mission. But when they arrive to confront him, he refuses to help as he's been fired. Lisa tries to cheer him up, but they're quickly forced to turn to Plan B: a Simpson family performance of "A Christmas Carol" and hoping that he'll happen to wander by and see it. While the performance is far from the best one that's ever happened, Mr. McGrew does wander by and see it, giving Lisa reason to hope that maybe, just once, a crazy plan will work out. However, when he wanders off again, she realizes that their best effort has come up short, and with the snow getting even deeper, there probably won't be another chance before the holiday season is over.
