Dammit! I live in the South West and that has the highest standing charge so what ever I do it won’t make a lot of difference!

You'd be surprised. Personally I hate them and mine is almost what my entire bill was just a few years back but being aware and cutting usage makes a big difference - or getting rid of teenagers !! Industry average gas use for 2 people is 12,000 kWh a year and ours was 1,600 !!
