I find it strange that, despite being called "Birmingham 2022", the track cycling's only 10 miles or so from where I live (and that's in London).

Reddy_Rachael the games were due to be in Durban South Africa but they had to pull out only a few years ago. Birmingham didn’t have a full development time / cycle so had to use existing stadia (the only thing built is the aquatics center, which will get a lot more use than a velodrome!

^ I already know all that stuff. I'm just surprised that they're not using (or seemingly considered) the one in Manchester they built for the 2002 Games, which is about 40 miles closer.

Yeah, I did wonder about that, can only think either London holds more spectators or easier access to accommodations for athletes?

^ Given that only London and Edinburgh are the only cities in the United Kingdom to get more visitors than Manchester, I'm guessing people really want to go there.

IIRC Manchester is the training base for England Cycling, while it shouldn't make any difference 9 a track's a track ) perhaps it wasn't seen as a neutral venue ??
